The town made nearly $600,000 in land sales last year.
Council approved the allocation of $584,791.50 in 2016 land revenues to several different reserve funds at its regular meeting here Monday night.
Huffman Court subdivision lot sales realized $395,000 while Front Street property sold to Syncor for the future Edgewood Townhomes brought in $180,000 for the town.
Industrial lots sales accounted for the remaining $9,791.50.
Of the $584,791.50, $65,135.50 was directed to the corporate building reserve fund while $337,403 was allocated to the corporate projects reserve fund.
The remaining $182,253 was moved to the town’s water and sewer reserve fund.
Meanwhile, there could be some changes to refuse collection in two parts of town–as long as certain conditions are met.
On Jan. 25, Asselin Transportation had requested that residential refuse collection in Areas 3 and 4 be altered by adding the area south of King’s Highway between Lillie Avenue and Keating Avenue to Area 3, removing it from Area 4 in order to balance out the collection within these two areas on a day-to-day basis.
The collection provider also requested curbside collection for garbage in the 800 block of McKenzie Avenue and Victoria Avenue as the truck is unable to navigate this alley.
Pick-up currently has to be done by staff walking into the area.
Upon recommendation from the Operations and Facilities executive committee, council on Monday directed that the proposed changes to Areas 3 and 4 be made contingent upon Asselin Transportation covering the costs associated with re-printing the collection scheduled for Area 3.
Asselin Transportation also must distribute the schedules to those houses affected, as well as print and distribute suitable notification material to be sure those affected are fully aware of the change prior to switching over the collection.
In related news, Asselin Transportation rescinded its Jan. 25 request to discontinue using back alley laneways and have both residential refuse and recycling be placed on curbside.
