If the Muskie girls’ hockey team wanted to settle some scores, it is going to get the chance.
The pools and game schedule were announced Friday for the OFSAA ‘A/AA’ girls’ hockey championship being held March 22-24 in Stratford.
Fort High is seeded 11th in the 16-team field and will run into at least two opponents who have given it a hard time in recent encounters at the all-Ontarios.
Joining the black-and-gold in Pool ‘A’ is the two-time defending champion and top seed, the host St. Michael Warriors.
It was the Warriors who stopped the Muskies’ magical run in Kenora two years ago with a 5-1 victory in the gold-medal game.
Also in Pool ‘A’ are the sixth-ranked Lambton Lancers (Petrolia), who eliminated Fort High from last year’s tournament in Stratford with a 3-2 victory in the consolation semi-finals to leave the Muskies sitting in 12th place.
Rounding out Pool ‘A’ is the lowest-ranked team in the field, the Iona Dolphins (Mississauga).
The Muskies will face Lambton in their opener game March 22 at 7 a.m. (all times CDT), then go up against Iona at 11:30 a.m.
Fort High will close out the preliminary round versus St. Michael on March 23 at 8 a.m.
The top two teams in each pool advance to the quarter-finals at noon that day, with the semi-finals set for March 24 at 7 a.m.
The gold- and bronze-medal games will follow at noon.
There is no consolation bracket this year.
