The first rehearsal for this year’s Easter cantata is scheduled for March 20 at 7 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship.
Diane Maxey, who once again will be directing the choir, is asking those interested in participating to contact her beforehand at 274-7309.
Maxey is ordering CDs and songbooks for participants, and she absolutely must know how many to order prior to the first rehearsal.
There will be a $20 fee for these.
Maxey said she already has nearly 50 singers signed up–including many of her regular Fort Frances Choraliers–but is welcoming more.
“Anybody that is new that is interested, talk to me before our first practice,” she stressed.
Something new this year will be a mix-and-mingle for those singing in the cantata, which is scheduled for Saturday, March 11 from 2-4 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship.
“It’s for the people in the choir to finally get to know one another,” noted Maxey.
“We’ve had a lot of new people over this last couple years, and when I break them into parts and we’re practising, we don’t really get to see each other,” she remarked.
“It’s all business.
“This is just a couple hours for them to hang around, get some hors d’oeuvres and punch, and try and mingle and talk and visit with one another,” Maxey reasoned.
The mix-and-mingle is for choir members only, not guests.
Meanwhile, this year’s Easter cantata is a new one entitled “Champion of Love.”
It will be performed on Sunday, April 23 here (location to be determined) and then again on Sunday, April 30 at the Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls.
The concerts will be fundraisers for a new sound system for the Fort Frances Choraliers.
A bake sale will be held in conjunction with the cantata performance here.
In other Easter-related news, the Kiwanis Club will holds it annual Good Friday breakfast on April 14 at La Place Rendez-Vous.
Stay tuned for information as to when tickets will go on sale.
