I have been plugging away for a while now to promote and encourage people to see the potential Rainy River District has in agriculture.
We have some really great producers here yet we often are overlooked.
I am very pleased the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association is coming to visit us on Oct. 25 for a town hall meeting from 5-9 p.m., with supper included.
I have booked the Millennium Hall in Stratton so I will be looking forward to filling the hall with all our great producers of Rainy River District.
Please mark down the date and plan to attend. I don’t want to disappoint them from making the trek here!

The next cattle sale at the Stratton sales barn is fast approaching once again!
This sale normally is one of our biggest so Saturday September the 30th you likely will be able to hear calves bawling long before you pull into the yard on Saturday, Sept. 30 (it is the time of the year that calves are pulled off their mommas).
Be sure to let James know if you have animals or if you have any questions. Also, if you are looking to work at the barn, he would appreciate hearing from you so we can mark your name down.
You need to be at least 14 years old and have a valid social insurance number.

My new helper and I finished combining all our cereal and canola plots last week. I would have liked to cut and baled everything but with what the weather was calling for, I decided to hold off cutting.
I hope we can tackle that this week.
We also were able to get our winter wheat trial planted, so I hope to see it survive through the winter this year. Last year, we just planted too late and had nothing left in the spring.
Jenna has started to clean some oats, with very impressive oat yields.

I was feeding bulls Saturday morning when I found a nasty water leak. One of the fittings had rotted off and water was spraying everywhere (we had our very own spray park).
I was wondering why it seemed that I was getting less and less water pressure in the house. I blamed it on the fact I likely needed to clean out the screens on the taps.
Well, needless to say, it’s a good thing I have a good well because I think it has been leaking for a little while.
I also left a garden hose running all night through this, as well (I hope my dad doesn’t read this!)

Saturday night was a pretty special one as we attended a surprise 40th birthday party for my cousin, Beannie!
She was really surprised and it was a great night to see many of my friends and family from town that I don’t get to see very often.
Beannie enjoyed it but her text said that she felt a little more like 50 the day after.
