If any other NorWOSSA team plans to dethrone the Muskie girls’ hockey team, they’re going to have to win at least one playoff game on Fort Frances ice.
Annalise (CC) Hayes had a hat trick and an assist as the Muskies dumped the Sioux Lookout Warriors 8-2 yesterday afternoon at the Ice For Kids Arena.
With the win, Fort High (13-1) clinched first place and home-ice advantage throughout the NorWOSSA playoffs.
Hayes scored to make it 3-1 as part of a six-goal second period, then added a pair in the third to give her 10 goals in three games over three days.
Janelle Kaemingh and Jenna Clendenning each added a pair of markers while Siobhan Mackintosh got the other goal.
Sydney Beck earned the win in goal.
Savannah Kirton and Mackenzie Pettit replied for the Warriors, who seemed fatigued after laying it all on the line in a tough 3-1 loss to the Muskies the previous night.
Fort High next will host the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) this Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
Meanwhile, the Muskie boys remains flawless in NorWOSSA play–improving to 10-0 with a 4-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas last night in Kenora.
James Gushulak bulged the twine twice while Cam Gushulak and Chase McGuire added singles, with Spencer Murphy earning the win between the pipes.
Midget call-up Connor Nelson drew an assist for his first point as a Muskie.
The Muskies next host the Kittson Bearcats of Hallock, Mn. tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena) for an exhibition match postponed from Jan. 3 due to inclement weather.
Then on Monday, the Muskies will face the International Falls Broncos in the conclusion of this season’s “Border Battle” at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Fort High won the first meeting 1-0 back on Dec. 23 at Bronco Arena.
