Angela Petsnick was so overwhelmed with her team’s change of fortune, she virtually was speechless afterwards.
“I’m still trying to process this,” Petsnick grinned about the Muskie junior boys’ basketball team finally earning its first NorWOSSA win of the season with a 45-43 thriller over the visiting Kenora Broncos yesterday.
“[The Broncos] won their home tournament that we were in this past weekend, so to get this win will be a huge boost of confidence for [the Muskies],” she added.
Garrett Hyatt led Fort High (1-4) with 13 points.
Jreydon Indian had eight while Sean Huziak and Mike Vanderaa each had seven against Kenora (3-3).
In senior boys’ action, the Muskies (3-2) rode a 35-17 halftime lead to a 67-47 triumph over the Broncos (1-5).
Aaron Bujold paced the black-and-gold with 16 points while Liam Metke added 15.
Cole Kowalski drained 13, including a trio of three-pointers.
The senior squad then headed out today for the nine-team Kenora Invitational Tournament this weekend, with its first game being against the Red Lake Rams.
On the volleyball court yesterday, the first-place Muskie senior girls (4-1) took care of business with a 3-0 sweep of the Broncos (1-5).
Set scores were 25-22, 25-23, and 25-14.
The junior girls (4-1) had to go a little longer to get the job done–taking a 3-1 decision over winless Kenora (0-6) by scores of 25-8, 25-21, 23-25, and 25-10.
Both volleyball teams are in Thunder Bay this weekend for a tournament hosted by the St. Patrick’s Saints.
All four Muskie squads then resume NorWOSSA action here this coming Tuesday against the Dryden Eagles.
The senior girls take to the court at noon, followed by the junior girls and senior boys at 1:30 p.m. and then the junior boys at 3 p.m.
