Megan Carlson celebrated her younger sister’s return to good health and competition by going for a golden walk through the “Park.”
The Fort Frances native, now a sophomore at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., swam the anchor leg for the Fighting Knights women’s 4x200m freestyle relay team that captured first place at an NCAA Division II dual meet Saturday against the Rollins Tars in Winter Park, Fla.
The finish helped the Knights to a convincing 147-55 win overall.
Carlson swam her race-closing segment in 25.78 seconds to complete a mark of 1:44.18 that had the Knights’ claim the event by more than two seconds over Rollins.
The relay closed out the day for Carlson, who also was third in the 200m butterfly (2:17.86) and fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:01.23).
Lynn now heads into its biggest meet so far this season when they travel to Orlando for the Sunshine State Conference Championship from Feb. 16-19.
Meanwhile, Carlson’s sibling–Florida State Seminoles’ freshman diver Molly Carlson–was feeling more like her old self as she was part of the Seminoles’ women’s swimming and diving team’s 180-120 win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and a 247-46 pummelling of the Savannah College of Art and Design Bees in Atlanta.
Carlson missed the previous week’s dual meet against the Alabama Crimson Tide after coming down with food poisoning the day before.
But Carlson was soaring and scoring high against the Yellow Jackets–garnering 267 points to come second behind teammate Blaire Mulka (297.15) in the women’s 1m springboard.
She then took fourth in the 3m (279.53), with Mulka making it a double-gold day (335.10).
Scores for Carlson in the meet against Savannah were not available at press time.
It was also a banner week for Carlson when it came to the classroom.
She and the rest of the Seminoles’ women’s swimming and diving team were awarded Scholar All-America status last Tuesday after posting a collective grade-point average of 3.11.
Carlson herself was one of six members of the team to make the Dean’s List academically while five others made the President’s List by having a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Florida State returns to the pool this weekend for the Carolina College Nike Cup hosted by the North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill, N.C.
