Lisa Penner will try to bring yet another national curling title to Rainy River District.
The Fort Frances resident once again played third for Kenora’s Peggy Taylor, who nabbed a third-straight provincial senior women’s title by sweeping Pina Luomala (Geraldton) in their best-of-three showdown Saturday at the Kenora Curling Club.
Taylor, whose team also includes lead Tracy Stasiuk and newcomer Arlene Wilcox at second, downed Luomala 8-5 in their first match Saturday morning.
Then they clinched the crown with a 9-1 win in just four ends that afternoon.
The rink now heads to Fredericton, N.B. for the national senior championship March 18-25.
Northern Ontario went 2-7 overall at last year’s nationals in Digby, N.S., failing to make the championship pool.
They also were relegated to the seeding pool to determine the rankings for this year’s nationals.
