A new scoring threat in the Borderland Women’s Indoor Soccer League announced her presence not with a booming voice but a trio of booming kicks last night.
Bryanna Dustin netted a hat trick to guide D-Feeters to a 4-0 shutout of Tough Enough in the second game of the opening night of the regular season at Fort High.
Dustin rocketed one home from 10 feet out for the only goal of the first half after a perfect mid-court pass from Charmaine Langlais.
Then after intercepting Cathy Handberg’s clearing attempt, Dustin teed the ball up and drilled it in from the right side of the net early in the second half.
Jaymee Fiset made it 3-0, taking two cracks before powering the ball practically through keeper Jen Singleton.
Dustin then closed out the scoring with another blast from in tight.
Phyllis Pierson began her quest for a fourth-straight league title in impressive style, recording the shutout, including a couple of point-blank robberies on Sara Roach.
In the opening game, the short-handed Goal Diggers hung tough with Kicker Instinct before Katie Beninger notched the game-winner in a 2-1 victory.
Beninger, denied on four separate golden opportunities during the match by Diggers’ keeper Katie Stearns, worked herself free to the left of the net before hammering a shot just past Stearns with roughly 10 minutes to go.
Candace McCormick put Kicker Instinct on the board about 10 minutes into the first half.
Another rookie, Paige Nelson of International Falls, tied the game two minutes later on a brilliant one-timer off a feed from the corner by Tanya Hughes.
Action resumes next Wednesday with Tough Enough facing Kicker Instinct at 7 p.m., followed by D-Feeters versus Goal Diggers at 8:15.
