It was the only win of the day for the visitors but it was an emphatic one.
The Muskie junior girls’ volleyball team swept the host Dryden Eagles 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, and 25-20) in NorWOSSA action yesterday.
Fort High (1-1) had dropped its home-opener to Dryden (3-1) eight days earlier in a hard-fought, five-set loss.
But the black-and-gold used efficient play at the net, both attacking and defending, and a much-improved service game to capture the win.
Meanwhile, the Muskie senior girls’ squad (1-1) looked to be on their way to victory early yesterday with a 25-22 win in the first set.
But the 15-time defending champion Eagles (3-1) battled back to take the next three (25-22, 27-25, and 26-24) to capture the best-of-five match.
In boys’ basketball action yesterday, the senior Muskies dried up offensively in the fourth quarter en route to a 65-60 setback.
Jarret Hicks was at it again for the Eagles (3-1), netting a game-high 21 points to top the 20 he scored last week in Dryden’s 53-52 win here.
Aaron Bujold topped the Muskies (0-2) with 19 points while Liam Metke added 10.
And the junior Muskies played much better than their first time around but still fell 56-48 to the Eagles.
Caleb Allan had a 13-point second quarter to keep Fort High (0-2) within 31-25 at halftime, and finished with a team-leading 17.
Sean Huziak had seven points while Michael Vanderaa added six for the Muskies, who cut their fouls almost in half from the 22 taken in last week’s 70-45 loss to Dryden.
All four teams will be off for the holidays, returning to action Jan. 10 against the visiting Kenora Broncos.
