Muskies win in OT

Staff

These are not your father’s Sioux Lookout Warriors—not even your older brother’s.
The Warriors, largely a punching bag in recent seasons for the Muskie boys’ hockey team, showed they’ve come a long way in pushing the defending OFSAA champs to the limit before Fort High prevailed 5-4 in overtime in NorWOSSA action there yesterday.
It took three separate comebacks by the Muskies (6-0), then a recovery from giving up the equalizer with just .7 seconds left in regulation time, for Fort High to prevail over Sioux Lookout (2-2).
Chase McGuire took a feed from James Gushulak just 20 seconds into overtime and finished off a 2-on-1 against Warriors’ goalie Magnus Ray.
Brandon Kocuiba, Eric Pitkanen, Mike Drouin, and Cole Allan had the other Muskie goals.
Spencer Murphy earned the win between the pipes.
The two teams were back at it again this afternoon in Fort High’s final NorWOSSA game before the holiday break (the score was not known as of press time).
But the Muskies will visit the International Falls Broncos this Friday in the opener of their annual two-game exhibition “Battle of the Border.”
Fort High next plays at home Jan. 10 against the Kenora Broncos in the ’52 Canadians Arena.
