2016 Citizen of the Year Ruth Caldwell will be in the spotlight at tonight’s regular meeting of town council.
Caldwell was announced as this year’s top citizen at the Nov. 14 meeting, but will be officially honoured tonight with her and friends in attendance.
While the council meeting will be preceded by a committee of the meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m., Caldwell and guests have been asked to arrive for a 6 p.m. presentation.
After that on the agenda, Tannis Drysdale, a consultant with the Rainy River Future Development Corp., will provide an economic development activity report.
Other items on tonight’s agenda include:
•a recommendation re: amendment to Bylaw No. 25/76 (private pool fencing);
•a report re: council meeting dates in 2017;
•a letter from Cynthia Donald, Fun in the Sun chairperson, requesting that July 1, as well as a fundraising social on Feb. 25, be deemed “municipal events” so the committee can proceed with applying for a liquor licence for the latter;
•an invite to attend the Rainy River District Municipal Association’s annual general meeting Jan. 28 in Rainy River;
•a letter from C. McDougall, Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary fundraising committee, re: a sponsorship opportunity;
•a request from B93.1 The Border re: an advertising opportunity;
•a bylaw to impose certain user fees;
•a bylaw to authorize the signing of an agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local #65;
•a bylaw to authorize the signing of a collective agreement with the Fort Frances Professional Fire Fighters Association; and
•a bylaw to amend an agreement with the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. for financing of a Northern Community Capacity Building Program (Rainy Lake Market Square).
