The Fort Frances Atom Black Panthers captured their division at the “November Chill” tournament in Thunder Bay over the weekend, defeating the Thunder Bay Ice Cycles 3-0 in the final.
Madison Bliss earned the shutout while Kiera Fairnington had the game-winning goal (the other goal scorers weren’t provided).
The Panthers beat the Emo Express 5-0 in their opener before topping the Kenora Blazers 6-1.
Fort Frances then blanked the Nipigon Elks 5-0 but lost 3-1 to the Ice Cycles 3-1 in what was a preview of the final.
The Fort Frances Thunder went 0-3-1 in the Bantam division at the tourney.
They opened with a 0-0 tie against Petrie’s Stars (Thunder Bay), then lost 5-0 to the Lake of the Wood Bar-Down Beauties.
The Thunder were nipped 3-2 by the Dryden Petro Pass Warriors in their third game before losing 3-0 to the Esso Tigers (Thunder Bay).
In the Midget division, the Fort Frances Screaming Eagles went 1-2-1.
The Fort blanked Emo 3-0, fell 5-1 to the Kenora Ice Bunnies, tied the Thunder Bay McDonald Sabres 2-2, and lost 5-1 to the Thunder Bay McDonald Bears.
Also competing in the Midget division were the Fort Frances Snipers, who went winless in four games.
The Snipers opened with back-to-back 3-0 setbacks to the Esso Tigers and Petrie’s Stars.
Fort Frances then was dumped 9-1 by Lake of the Woods Chaos before closing the weekend with a 3-2 loss to Kenora Dy-no-mite.
