Town council likely will name the 2016 “Citizen of the Year” at its regular meeting tonight.
Council will discuss the recommendation put forth by the “Citizen of the Year” selection committee during the in-camera portion of the committee of the whole meeting.
If it approves the recommendation, the identity of the honouree will be announced later in the meeting.
The individual then will be acknowledged and celebrated during the Nov. 28 meeting of council.
As previously reported, six nominations were turned in at the Civic Centre prior to the Nov. 3 deadline.
After that time, the “Citizen of the Year” selection committee reviewed the nominees and forwarded its choice for council approval.
Also tonight, council will receive an operational update from Fort Frances Power Corp. CEO and president Joerg Ruppenstein, as well as a presentation from Ian Simpson of the Age-Friendly Community Committee.
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5:30 p.m., but will go in-camera for an indefinite length of time to discuss four items.
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•a report re: the 2017 user fee schedule;
•a letter from Jennifer and Bruce Lidkea re: swimming pool bylaw concerns;
•a letter from Murray Cawston re: reimbursement of expenses;
•a recommendation re: a sewer damage invoice at 509 Victoria Ave.;
•a bylaw to approve a partnership agreement with the Rainy River District School Board for Extended Day Program; and
•a bylaw to approve an extension to the licence agreement with the Ministry of the Environment re: a weather climate station at Fort Frances Airport.
