Week 2 of the Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League season saw more new players coming out, meaning most ever team had plenty of subs—and thus fresh legs—throughout the game.
The added bodies didn’t equal up to more points on the board, however, as the scores were low once again.
Missing their top scorer in Josh Mastin, Sunset Landscaping was hard-pressed to match the skilled play of Sam Soderman of RRFN (2-0), who surprised everyone by hitting four three-pointers in the first quarter.
His 25 points topped the team as they beat Sunset 69-41.
Cody Johnson led Sunset with 19 points in a losing cause.
The night’s second game stayed close throughout, but having John Sivonen and his three-point game back made the difference for Revco (1-2) as they edged BDO 50-46.
Sivonen had four “threes” and ended up with 19 points in all.
Cole Kowalski chipped in with 10 points—a total that could have been much higher had his lay-ups dropped.
Both Todd Richards and D.J. Mackintosh did some excellent shooting from in close, and combined for 24 points to lead BDO (0-2).
The third game of the night was a see-saw affair went down to the final shot before newly-sponsored Team Arctic Cat (2-0) hung on for a 40-39 victory over Sunset (1-2).
Jeremy Strain’s inside work and Jake McIntosh’s outside shooting resulted in 14 points each to pace their team to victory.
Shelby Wolden led Sunset with 11 points, including three baskets from beyond the arc.
