As has been the case all season, the newest runners made the biggest noise for the Muskies.
The Grade 9 duo of Liam George and Tori Toriseva both cracked the top 10 in their respective divisions at the NWOSSAA cross-country running championships yesterday in Thunder Bay.
George was fourth out of 27 finishers in the Midget boys’ division in a time of 15:43.2.
Hammarskjold Vikings’ trio Jett Dobson (14:58.5), Max Hollman (15:03.7), and Cale DeFranceseni (15:34) swept the top three spots.
Toriseva dashed to seventh place in the Midget girls’ division with a clocking of 19:50.
Olivia Walsh of the St. Ignatius Falcons was the winner (17:19.5).
Meanwhile, the Muskie senior girls won’t be making a return trip to OFSAA after being unable to place any of their five runners in the top 15.
Kennedi Handberg and Gabi Peters finished the race virtually side by side.
Handberg was awarded 18th place in the 47-runner field (33:30.9) while Peters was 19th (33:31.3).
Jessica Steele and Syd Beck also were one behind the other, with Steele in 30th (35:47.4) and Beck 31st (35:53.1).
Tory Beaudry rounded out the Muskie results by taking 33rd spot (36:23).
Hanna Johnston (Hammarskjold) cruised to victory by more than three minutes (24:38.9).
And in the junior girls’ division, Muskie Shaelyn Tuesday was 27th in the 28-runner field (41:11.2).
Hammarskjold’s Amy Stieh captured the gold (22:35).
OFSAA is set for Nov. 5 in Port Hope.
