Work on Colonization Road East is in its final phase at long last.
Thunder Bay contractor Makkinga Contracting & Equipment Rentals started installing the first lift of asphalt today.
The contractor will pave the section of Colonization Road East between Scott Street and Third Street East.
Then after taking the weekend off, paving will resume Monday.
They’re expected to have all of Colonization Road East and Minnie Avenue done in three days.
Once this is completed, the area will be fully re-opened to traffic.
A second layer of asphalt will be installed next year.
Makkinga, meanwhile, has completed the placing of all the new concrete curbs and gutters, as well as 189 square metres of sidewalk and 175 square metres of driveway aprons.
They also installed a new asphalt bike path along that stretch of the La Verendrye Parkway.
