The Muskie golf team will attend its season-opening tournament tomorrow hosted by the Dryden Eagles.
The squad has a new man at the helm this year, with Jonny Lundon taking over for Brian Johnstone, who relocated to Thunder Bay earlier this year.
Farrell White is serving as co-coach.
The Muskies won silver as a team in the boys’ division at last year’s NWOSSAA championships held on their home course at Heron Landing, finishing just six shots behind the St. Ignatius Falcons (Thunder Bay).
Repeating that achievement could rest on the status of Tyson Morrisseau, the team’s most valuable player last season, who tentatively was scheduled to return for a “victory lap” year as of press time today.
Morrisseau won silver in the individual boys’ competition at NWOSSAA—losing on the second hole of a playoff to Cameron Baird of the Westgate Tigers (Thunder Bay).
He then went on to tie for 54th place at OFSAA in Windsor.
Other veterans likely to be back with the team, but still unconfirmed at this point, were Cam Gushulak and Kendyn Faragher.
Gordie Scott is one confirmed newcomer while Mikel Ward also is a first-year player who possibly will represent the Muskies this season.
The Muskies then will head to Red Lake next Thursday (Sept. 15) before the NorWOSSA finals go Sept. 21 in Kenora.
The NWOSSAA championships are set for Sept. 28-29 in Geraldton.
