The fire hazard is rising.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reports the forest fire hazard is “moderate” to “high” in the western portions of the Northwest Region and “high” with pockets of “extreme” in the eastern portions of the region.
There were two new fires confirmed in the region yesterday.
Fort Frances District fire #12 is “not under control” at 0.2 hectares in size and is located near Mink Lake.
Nipigon District fire #32 is “not under control” at 0.1 ha. and is located near Purdom Lake.
There are currently 12 fires burning in the region.
