It was better but still not enough.
Eighth-ranked Manitoba Silver was much more competitive in its second game at the 2016 Football Canada Cup in Winnipeg on Tuesday following a 52-0 shellacking at the hands of top-ranked Quebec three days earlier.
But the team featuring three Muskies in defensive lineman/linebacker Kenton Bowles, running back Sekina Scheibler, and quarterback Brandon Whitecrow wasn’t able to overcome fifth-ranked Nova Scotia in a 22-15 loss in the consolation semi-finals.
Running back Adam Bennett gave Manitoba fits all game—rushing for 161 yards and two touchdowns.
Nova Scotia now will take on sixth-ranked Manitoba Gold, which blanked seventh-seeded New Brunswick 13-0 on Tuesday, in the fifth-place game tomorrow afternoon.
Manitoba Silver and its squad of mostly Northwestern Ontario players, meanwhile, will face New Brunswick in the seventh-place game tomorrow morning.
In the championship bracket semi-finals, Quebec rallied for a 24-10 victory over fourth-ranked Alberta while No. 3 Saskatchewan upset second-seeded Ontario 12-10.
Quebec and Saskatchewan will vie for the gold medal tomorrow night while Alberta and Ontario will meet in late afternoon for the bronze.
