Before the rains came, the La Place Rendez-Vous U18 Voyageurs fended off an approaching storm and gave themselves a bit of breathing room in the process.
Ian Jodoin netted the game-winner as the Voyageurs edged Manitou Forest Products 2-1 in the men’s division of the Borderland Soccer League last night at the Struchan Gilson Memorial Soccer Pitch.
The Vous (7-2) won its third in a row and moved six points up in the race for top spot thanks to Jodoin’s second of the season and Chase McGuire’s first, combined with stellar goalkeeping from Alex Gustafson.
Manitou (5-5) had its own three-game run of success halted in the process and lost its first game since the return to the lineup of three-time defending league goal scoring champion Ahmadou Idrissou.
It was Idrissou supplying the lone goal for Manitou, vaulting him to his familiar spot atop the scoring charts with his league-best fifth marker of the campaign.
James Pavier and Carter Chorney each took a turn between the pipes for Manitou.
In the women’s division, Taggs/Source for Sports got three points without breaking a sweat as they were handed a 1-0 forfeit victory by Al’s Racquet Stringing.
Al’s (4-6) had a chance to reach the .500 mark and have a season-high three-game winning streak after winning by forfeit itself in its last scheduled game against the first-place La Place Rendez-Vous U18 Voyageurs (8-2).
Instead, Taggs (3-7) moved within three points of Al’s in second place by claiming its second forfeit win of the season, the other coming earlier in the year when Al’s lost three players to injury in the first half and didn’t have enough players to finish the contest.
Action resumes on Monday at 7 p.m.
Al’s will try to conquer the Vous in women’s play, while the male Voyageurs clash with third-place International Travel Services (4-6) in the men’s category.
