The Minnesota Dakota & Western Railway (MD&W) and the International Bridge and Terminal Co. has increased the cost to cross the bridge as of Friday.
The cost per round trip for commuter cards has gone up by 25 cents while the cost per round trip for cash auto crossings increased by $1.
The rate increase is due to a rise in maintenance and inspection requirements in addition to a significant decrease in crossings, according to MD&W.
The decrease in crossings refers to vehicle crossings into and out of Canada.
Commuter cards are now $28.25 Cdn. ($21 U.S.) for 12 round trips and the cash auto crossing will be $9 Cdn. ($7 U.S.) per round trip.
Commuter cards already purchased will be honoured until the crossings are used up or they expire.
Bridge commuter cards are available at Canada Safeway here and the Super One and County Market grocery stores and the Holiday Gas station in International Falls.
