‘Strawberry Social’ set to go Thursday

The La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual “Strawberry Social” this coming Thursday (June 16) from 1-4 p.m. on the hospital grounds.
In case of rain, the event will be moved indoors.
Convener Joy Lockman reported the event is taking shape, and is requesting donations of plants, books, puzzles, and items for the “Pick-a-Strawberry” and white elephant tables.
All items should be new or gently-used. Gift bags also would be appreciated.
As well, baked goods will be needed for the bake table. Lockman suggested that pies would be very welcome, as well as baking that is diabetic-friendly.
Items can be dropped off at the hospital gift shop from 12:30-3:30 p.m. prior to the “Strawberry Social” or on the morning of it.
Lockman also indicated she would pick up items from auxiliary members who are unable to bring them to the hospital (this can be arranged by calling her at 276-6748).
Meanwhile, Janet Lambert and Linda LaRocque, conveners of the “Lucky Dozen” table, are very enthused with the number and quality of items that are being included in the raffle this year.
They urge patrons to stop by their table while at the “Strawberry Social.”
The hospital auxiliary has been hosting the “Strawberry Social” as an annual event since 1955, and it has become an anticipated event for members and the public alike.
The $5 admission fee includes a serving of strawberry shortcake and a beverage.
Many local businesses participate through take-out orders, which are delivered by auxiliary volunteers.
A reminder that take-out only is available for orders of two or more. And to make it easier for the delivery people, exact change in cash is expected.
To arrange for take-out, call auxiliary president Susan Robertson at 274-7509.
In related news, the auxiliary will hold its annual general meeting and luncheon this Monday (June 13) at noon in Hallett Hall at Rainycrest.
The theme of the meeting will be a summer picnic, which will be reflected in the table décor and food.
Robertson will present the annual report and an election of officers also will be held.
