Double-gold dreams went unfulfilled for Sekina Scheibler.
The Muskie track-and-field athlete placed fifth in the junior boys’ discus throw event yesterday at the OFSAA championships in Windsor.
Scheibler had a top throw of 46.48m in the fifth of six rounds—almost two metres less than his first-place throw at the NWOSSAA championships in Thunder Bay last week (48.45m).
He only had one other throw top 46m (46.39) while also registering 40.24m, 39.43m, and 31.69m (he fouled on one throw).
Scheibler was looking to repeat his success from last year, when he became just the third individual Muskie to win OFSAA gold when he claimed the Midget boys’ discus title.
Martin Matthew of the Bishop Allen Cardinals (Etobicoke) captured the gold with a best result of 51.30m—one of three throws he had that surpassed the 50m mark.
Fort High’s other rep at OFSAA joins the fray today as Jacob Empey competes in the senior boys’ triple jump this afternoon.
He’ll get another medal opportunity tomorrow afternoon when he competes in the senior boys’ long jump.
