‘Strawberry Social’ to be held June 16

Press Release

The La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary executive meeting was held May 3 in the hospital boardroom.
President Susan Robertson reported that the joint spring conference, which was held in Fort Frances on April 8-9, was very successful, with very interesting speakers and an excellent response from participants.
Dixie Badiuk reported that the “Rockin’ for a Reason,” which was held April 22-23 in conjunction with the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s expo, also was very well-received and raised more than $7,000 for the auxiliary.
Robertson pointed out that over the past three years, the auxiliary has donated more than $125,000 to the hospital.
These funds have been used to purchase mammography equipment, beds, mattresses, TV sets, as well as other equipment.
Meanwhile, Joy Lockman reported plans are underway for the auxiliary’s annual “Strawberry Social,” which will be held June 16 on the hospital grounds.
Donations of gently-used items are required for the book table, white elephant table, and the Pick-a-Strawberry table.
For the baking table, Lockman advised that it would be nice to have more pies, as well as baking with Splenda for those with diabetes.
Labelling of ingredients also would be appreciated.
Gift shop manager Monica Sus reported a new cooler from Pepsi is being installed.
She also noted a need for more workers for the cart.
Members interested in helping out are asked to contact Sus at 274-7043.
Social convener Janet Lambert advised that plans are underway for the June luncheon meeting, which also will be the auxiliary’s annual general meeting.
It will be held June 13 in Hallett Hall at Rainycrest.
Tickets will be available at all the usual outlets: the hospital gift shop, Pharmasave, and Shoppers Drug Mart.
Reports for the annual general meeting should be sent to Robertson by June 1.
Finally, Bev Johnson requested that members who have moved advise her of their change of address by leaving that information at the hospital gift shop.
