Emo singer/songwriter Maverick Judson released his latest single called “Stay,” and an accompanying music video, on Monday and he’s hoping local residents will enjoy it.
“It’s really fun and makes you feel good,” Judson said about the song he wrote about a year ago while tinkering away in his studio.
“It rides a bit on your emotions but not too much,” he clarified.
“Just enough to get you in that mood where you wanna tap your steering wheel and bob your head.”
His intention was to write a fun song that was simple and easy to remember. And with it’s catchy beat, he did just that.
Judson said he’s thrilled to finally release the song that has taken him about a year to get all together.
“Most of the time I’ve been waiting on other people to do their part,” he explained, adding he finally had that feeling in his gut to “just get the music out there.”
Judson collaborated with Chivas Kimber, an artist from Amsterdam, who was a friend of a producer he had worked with.
“He sang and wrote the second verse,” he noted.
Then back in March, Judson travelled to Freeport, Bahamas for a vacation but also to shoot the video for “Stay.”
“It was a last-minute decision and possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” he said about choosing the Bahamas as the location for the video.
He admitted the shoot was a bit rushed because they were on vacation and didn’t want it to feel too much like work.
But he’s happy with the final product.
“It’s a montage of beautiful moments that will stick in my mind forever,” Judson remarked, adding he also is pleased with the single itself.
“I like it,” he said. “I always pick out parts I wish I would have sang differently or produced differently, but you just have to move on to the next song and get it out to the people’s ears.”
This isn’t the only thing Judson has been working on of late. He’s planning to release a full-length album, entitled “As I Am,” in mid-June.
“I’m just waiting on the artwork right now for the CD,” he noted, adding there will be a lot of fun songs on it.
“I like to write feel-good music,” Judson explained. “Once in a while I like writing a tear-jerker, but I usually just really like to have fun with music.
“I always picture people having a good time when I write songs and that’s the kind of response I hope to get when they hear it,” he added.
Judson said he’s excited to release the album.
“I have been holding back for so long that it’s going to feel really good to get it in the hands of my friends and family,” he enthused.
And while he’s primarily focused on getting the album out, Judson said there are more videos and single releases on the way, including another with Canadian musician Karl Wolf.
“I have learned to not expect one single move to break you into the industry,” Judson reasoned.
“But to look at your hard work and realize what you did in fact gain from the experience as a person, as an artist, and even from a business standpoint.”
