The OFSAA champion of a year ago doesn’t feel like he’s in mid-season form.
His medal count says otherwise.
Sekina Scheibler led the Muskies’ 17-member track-and-field team with six podium finishes in six events at the season-opening Bronco Booster Invite at Falls High School yesterday.
Scheibler, who won the Midget boys’ discus at the all-Ontarios last season, had the majority of the 11 medals brought home by the black-and-gold, which finished fourth out of five teams in both the girls’ division (27 points) and boys’ division (45 points).
He grabbed top spot in discus with a best throw of 108.5 feet, nearly nine feet better than runner-up Mark Brooks (Lake of the Woods/Rainy River).
Scheibler also soared to first place in the long jump with a mark of 18 ft. and 3 and 1/4 in.
He earned silver in the 200m (25.74 seconds) and triple jump (36 ft, 1 and 3/4 in.), and bronze in the high jump (5 ft., 4 in.) and shot put (36 ft., 11 inches).
Ellie Petsnick burned up the track to take gold in the girls’ 100m (13.64).
Jenny Hammond, last year’s Muskie team captain, was a double medalist yesterday with silver in the girls’ high jump (4 ft., 6 inches) and bronze in the 1,600m (6:02.98).
Jacob Empey nabbed a bronze in the boys’ triple jump (36 ft., 1 and 1/2 inches) while the Muskie girls’ 4x100m relay team did the same (1:01.94).
The Muskies will be back in the Falls for their next meet April 26.
