Senior staff from the Northwest Catholic District School Board are continuing their work to determine the feasibility of a Catholic high school here, with an update to be given at tonight’s regular board meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the board office.
Back in November, trustees passed a motion directing senior staff to investigate the feasibility of Catholic high schools within the communities of Fort Frances and Dryden, including consultation with the Ministry of Education.
Although the report will be presented at the board’s monthly meeting in May, the work of consulting with Catholic School Councils and the Ministry of Education has been ongoing.
The board would like to inform parents about Catholic secondary schools by providing a series of four information brochures that will be available in the schools and communities.
These highlight the provincial history of Catholic secondary school programming, a current look at Catholic secondary schools, Catholic secondary school programming in the northwest, and what Catholic secondary programming could look like in the local board.
The board also is planning parent information sessions that are being finalized for St. Francis School here and St. Joseph’s School in Dryden, as well as communicating information to parents through a link on its website.
Also at tonight’s meeting, trustees will:
•recognize the dedication and commitment of Grade 7/8 teacher and Grade 8 boys’ volleyball coach Steven Bryck from St. Patrick’s School in Atikokan;
•hear a presentation about the French Immersion program;
•review the board’s Improvement Plan for Student Achievement;
•hear a summary of the Community Stakeholder Input survey; and
•hear an update on the consolidation of St. Francis and St. Michael’s Schools.
