Chris Silver and Erin Tomalty no longer have a zero in their career OFSAA win column.
Silver, skipping the first Muskie boys’ rink to reach the all-Ontarios since 2011, edged the Frank J. Hayden Huskies (Burlington) 5-4 in their only game yesterday.
Accompanied by The No. 2-seeded rink in Pool ‘D,’ the Muskies were up two coming home without hammer.
Huskies’ skip Robert Andersen needed to tap back Silver’s stone on his last shot to force an extra end, but he came up light and only scored a single.
The Muskies, who also include third Daniel Vandenbrand, second Jason Bazylewski, and lead Davis Jackson, play twice today.
They first faced the Bishop Allen Cardinals (Etobicoke), the top-ranked team in Pool ‘D,’ earlier today (the outcome wasn’t known as of press time).
Then they’ll take on the fifth-seeded Vincent Masse Mustangs (Windsor) tonight.
The Muskies wrap up pool play tomorrow morning against the fourth-ranked Richview Saints (Etobicoke).
Meanwhile, the Muskies girls—the top-ranked team in Pool ‘E’ and also featuring third Tory Beaudry, second Anika Beaudry, and lead Andrea Schram—started off on the right foot yesterday with a 10-4 win over the fourth-seeded Markham Marauders.
It was a critical win for Fort High, which finished 0-4 at OFSAA two years ago when Tomalty and the Beaudrys played for skip Hailey Beaudry.
But the good feeling didn’t carry over into last night’s draw as the third-ranked Lawrence Park Panthers (Toronto) cruised to a 10-1 win to drop the black-and-gold to 1-1.
The Muskies’ only game today happened earlier against the second-seeded Haliburton Highlands Red Hawks, with the game incomplete as of press time.
Then they’ll face the fifth-ranked Maxwell Heights Mustangs (Oshawa) tomorrow afternoon to close out pool play.
The top two teams in each pool advance to tomorrow’s quarter-finals.
The semi-finals are set for Thursday morning, with the gold- and bronze-medal finals to be held that afternoon.
