Couchiching First Nation band members will go to the polls next Wednesday (Feb. 24).
There will be a polling station at the Couchiching multi-use building on election day, which will be open from 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
Off-reserve and absentee ballots also will be available.
The four individuals running for chief include incumbent Sara Mainville, Louis “Smokey” Bruyere, Scott McPherson, and Brian Perrault.
The 28 women and men running for council are (in alphabetical order) Debbie Adams, Gary Adams, Marilyn Allan, Ron “Magoo” Archie (incumbent), David Bruyere (incumbent), Dean Bruyere, Edwin “Johnny” Bruyere, Norman A. Bruyere Jr., Richard Bruyere, and Margie Derendorf-Caul.
They’re joined by Carolyn Jourdain, Christine Jourdain (incumbent), Shane Jourdain, Ida Linklater, Larry Linklater, Ron Linklater, Daniel Mainville, Nick Mainville, Eugene McPherson, Daniel Craig Morriseau, Darren Morrisseau, Dennis Morrisseau, Lucille “Bugsy” Morrisseau (incumbent), and Patrick Morrisseau (incumbent).
Rounding out the nominees are Brian Perrault, William “Bill” Perrault (incumbent), Estelle Simard, and Allan Yerxa.
One chief and six councillors will be elected for a two-year term, which will start March 8.
The current chief and council will meet on an as-required basis until the end of their mandate March 7.
