The Northwest Catholic District School Board is conducting an online survey in order to provide feedback to support its French Immersion programming.
French Immersion was resurrected locally this year for Grade 1 and Early Years (Year 2) students at St. Michael’s School after a group of parents urged the board to consider reinstating it.
French Immersion also is offered at Sacred Heart School in Sioux Lookout and St. Joseph’s School in Dryden.
“The ability to speak both of Canada’s official languages assists in preparing students to take their role as active and engaged citizens in today’s bilingual and multicultural Canada,” Superintendent of Education Joanne Querel said at Saturday’s board meeting.
“In order to garner stakeholders’ feedback and input into the current French Immersion program at Sacred Heart, St. Joseph’s, and St. Michael’s schools, a survey has been developed for parents/guardians to respond,” she noted.
The board is looking for parents and guardians of past, present, and future French Immersion students to take a few minutes to complete the short survey.
It asks those taking the survey to describe the various aspects of the French Immersion program that they value, and whether they see value in offering it at the full-day Kindergarten Year One (JK) level.
It also allows for additional comments.
The survey link is posted on the board’s website.
People have until 3 p.m. on Dec. 16 to respond.
