The leadership of the Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League is “back in black.”
Sam Soderman netted 27 points to lead Team Black to a 90-77 victory over Team Red in action Tuesday night at J.W. Walker School.
John Sivonen had a game-high 32 for Team Red.
With the win, Team Black (2-0) upped its lead atop the three-team league.
The news didn’t get any better for a tired Team Red, who then had to turn around and face Team White.
Team White took advantage of having the fresher squad to post its first win of the season in a 70-65 decision over Team Red.
Mark Heyens drained 20 points for Team White while Sivonen again led all scorers with 24.
Team Red made it interesting in the final moments—trailing by three with nine seconds left.
But a last-ditch three-point try didn’t fall.
Josh Cousineau was fouled after the rebound and sunk the subsequent free throws to ice the game.
Both squads are tied for second place at 1-2.
League action resumes next Tuesday at 8 p.m.
