The Fort Frances Lions Novice girls’ team needed happier feet to beat these Penguins.
Logan McPherson scored for the Lions but it wasn’t enough to upend the Thunder Bay Penguins, who prevailed 3-1 in the semi-finals of the “November Chill” tournament in Thunder Bay over the weekend.
The Lions went 1-0-2 in the preliminary round, batlling both the Thunder Bay Sharks and the Penguins to 2-2 ties.
Jersey Rose had both Lions’ goals against the Sharks while Rose and Marissa Kenny tallied against the Penguins.
Then a 6-0 romp over the Thunder Bay Jets saw Kenny strike for a hat trick.
Rose added a pair while Ella Evans notched the other goal.
Meanwhile, the Fort Frances Tim Hortons Bruins Novice girls’ team split a pair of games at the Warroad U8 Jamboree last weekend.
Fort Frances lost 8-6 to Roseau in its first game.
Addison Chown and Ophelia Lucas-Engberg each tallied twice in a losing cause while Sayler Easton and Marlee Bliss added singles.
The Bruins roared mightily in their second outing, though, dumping the host Warriors 8-2.
Chown racked up four goals in that one, with Davilyn Miller, Bliss, Lucas-Engberg, and Taryn Oster notching one each.
In Fort Frances Girls’/Women’s Hockey Association last Thursday, the Fort Frances AtoMC Icebergs nipped the Emo Express 1-0 in Atom girls’ play.
Kiera Fairnington scored while Maddy Bliss earned the shutout.
