Scott Street closure

The 200 block of Scott Street will be closed starting tomorrow at 7 a.m. for sewer service work at the former site of the Rainy Lake Hotel.
It will be reopen by 8 p.m. on Sunday.
During this time, Makkinga Contracting, a subcontractor of JMX Contracting, will be installing a new sewer main into the property.
Through this work, the north sidewalk will remain open to pedestrian traffic, as well as access to the neighbouring properties on the east and west of the site.
“At the pre-construction meetings, the date of Nov. 15 was determined as the absolute last day to close Scott Street and the project was tendered as such,” Chief Building Official Travis Rob told the Times.
“Through this project, the interruptions to Scott Street traffic has been far less than anticipated and this closure is absolutely necessary to complete a key piece of infrastructure work to maintain the servicing of 229 Scott St.,” he noted.
“Through this project, the Town of Fort Frances and the site contractors have made, and will continue to make, every effort to minimize the impact on the downtown core by minimizing road closures,” added Rob.
“This block of Scott Street will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so.”
After the site service work is done, siding work will be done on the two adjacent buildings (Brockie’s Jewellers and Causeway Insurance) by another subcontractor.
