The Fort Frances Lakers keep winning and their star in the national sky keeps rising.
Riding a seven-game streak of victories, the Lakers jumped from No. 10 to No. 5 in the latest CJHL weekly top 20 rankings.
The Lakers, sitting in first place in the SIJHL with a 14-2 record, are moving in on its previous best spot in the rankings when it hit No. 2 last season.
The Penticton Vees (BCHL), winners of 19-straight games, remained tops in the rankings, followed by the defending Dudley Hewitt Cup champion Soo Thunderbirds (NOJHL) at No. 2.
The reigning RBC Cup national champion Portage Terriers (MJHL) slipped to No. 3 while the Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL) moved up two spots to No. 4.
The Lakers return to action here this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against the second-place Dryden GM Ice Dogs (11-4-1), who earned an honourable mention in this week’s CJHL rankings.
In related news, Fort Frances native and former Laker Jordan Larson will be on one of the CCHL teams that will compete in the upcoming Eastern Canada Cup Challenge in Cornwall from Nov. 16-18.
The Carleton Place Canadians’ forward is second in the CCHL scoring race with 41 points in 24 games.
