The annual “Drive-Thru Breakfast,” hosted by the local Voyageur Lions Club, won’t take place this year.
The event, which originally had been scheduled for Sept. 24 at Tim Hortons, had been postponed due to the reconstruction of King’s Highway.
The intent was to have it once the road work was done.
But given the fact it is now early November, the highway work is still not done, and the weather is getting wintery, the club decided to call the event off for this year and host it at its regular date early next fall.
“It’s really unfortunate,” said Lion Gaby Hanzuk, noting the club felt it was unsafe to have such an event while construction was taking place and traffic was congested.
“Now had they been done a little earlier, maybe a month ago, it would have been different,” she remarked.
“But it’s now November.
“The weather is kind of against us and the road construction is against us—two out of three, you just stop,” Hanzuk chuckled.
The club is grateful for all of the supporters who already donated prizes for the “Drive-Thru Breakfast.”
Hanzuk vowed they won’t be approached next year as the club will be keeping many of the prizes to use then.
“I feel really bad for the people who look forward to it, and we apologize to them,” she said.
“Hopefully next year we do a real big bang-up of it.”
The “Drive-Thru Breakfast” has been held the past 11 years here.
