There is a first time for everything—and what a time it will be.
The Muskie cross-country running team made school history yesterday by qualifying its all-female squad for the OFSAA championships for the first time after a stellar day at the NWOSSAA meet in Thunder Bay.
Fort High finished second overall in the girls’ team standings to earn one of the two automatic team berths for the all-Ontarios, which will take place Nov. 7 in Collingwood.
“First time for us—everyone is very excited,” said Muskie coach John Dutton.
Team captain Jenny Hammond set the pace by coming in third in the senior girls’ five-km race with a time of 21:44.
Sydney Radigan led a tightly-bunch group of locals after that, placing 13th (25:44).
Close behind her was Gabi Peters in 15th (25:44), Erin Tomalty in 16th (26:54), Tory Beaudry in 20th (27:17), and Kennedi Handberg in 24th (30:35).
Sydney Beck was 20th in the junior girls’ four-km event (21:14).
With teams allowed to enter five runners plus one alternate at OFSAA, all six Muskies will be off to Collingwood.
