A backhoe tore into a rear wall of the Rainy Lake Hotel on Friday as JMX Contracting continues to make rapid progress demolishing the old building. Onlookers have noted how skillfully the heavy equipment has picked away at the structure since demolition began last week. The 200 block of Scott Street will be closed to traffic this Friday through Monday (Oct. 16-19) as the contractor will start tearing down the front of the hotel. Pedestrian traffic won’t be affected, nor traffic through the intersections at Mowat and Portage Avenues.
