An opportunity to explore spiritual yearnings is available to anyone interested each Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church here (1105 Scott St.)
The first of 24 sessions begins tonight (Oct. 1) but you are welcome to join us on any Thursday night.
This year, we are led by a DVD presentation by Dr. Bart Ehrman of the University of North Carolina.
The study includes lecture notes from his research on how Jesus came to be seen as divine.
Each week we begin with a 20-minute video, followed by a simple snack and beverage, with group discussion based on the lecture, questions, and life experience.
There is no pressure on anyone to speak if listening is your preference.
People are encouraged to be open-minded and speak for themselves while also listening respectfully to one another.
Diversity of perspectives, personal journeys, and experiences are honoured.
Prof. Ehrman’s inquiry of “how Jesus became God” takes us into the process by which the divinity of Jesus first was conceived by his followers, demonstrating how this was refined over time to become a central theme of Christian theology and has shaped western civilization.
All are welcome, and a limited number of study guides are available upon request.
