Couchiching’s 22nd-annual traditional pow-wow, scheduled for this weekend, has been postponed.
“It is going to be rescheduled because we have had another death in the community,” a spokesperson at the band office noted.
It was the second death there this week.
“As much as we wanted to continue on with the pow-wow, I think it is best given the impacts that recent deaths had within our community that we agree to postpone the pow-wow this weekend,” the band wrote on its Facebook page yesterday.
“We will do our best to support the families and many friends within Couchiching over this extremely difficult time,” it added.
“Everyone please take good care of one another.”
The deaths of the band members currently are under investigation.
A rescheduled date for the pow-wow has not been decided yet.
