The new kids in town are on the board.
The expansion Fort Frances Mud Dogs recorded their first point of the season last night with a 3-3 tie against the host Big Island Wildcats in Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League action.
Candace Handorgan homered for the Wildcats (0-1-1) in a make-up game from May 13.
But her strong effort on the mound was matched pitch for pitch by Mud Dogs’ hurler Erica Paulsen to salvage the draw for Fort Frances (0-1-1).
League action resumes today at 6:30 p.m. on six fronts.
The marquee match-up will be the Fort Frances Herricanes (1-0) hosting the Big Grassy Lynx (1-0) at VanJura—scene of the Fort’s playoff elimination last year at the hands of the Lynx.
Another key game will see the first-place Couchiching Lady Raiders (2-0) visiting Northwest Bay (0-1-1).
The Mud Dogs will host the two-time defending champion Red Gut Babes (1-0-1) while the Fort Frances Juniors (1-0) head west to face the Sabaskong Cougars (1-1).
Sabaskong Tebinaak (1-2) will host the Manitou Blaze (0-1) while Big Island hits the road against the Pinewood Diggers (0-1).
