A pair of Couchiching residents are two wins away from a national championship.
Amber Jourdain and Alexis Perreault are part of second-seeded Team Ontario, which beat eighth-ranked Team North 6-1 in quarter-final action yesterday at the 2015 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Bedford, N.S.
Jourdain was held pointless in her return to the lineup after having to leave Tuesday’s game against Team Atlantic in the first period with a severe case of the ’flu.
She also missing Wednesday’s round-robin finale against Team B.C.
Perreault, meanwhile, has been sidelined the past two games after blocking a shot against Team Atlantic.
Her playing status was unknown as of press time.
Ontario, which won Division II with a 3-0 record, scored four times in the first period yesterday against Team North, which finish fourth in Division I after going 0-2-1.
Ontario now will take on fourth-ranked Alberta in the semi-finals this afternoon.
The winner will earn a berth in tomorrow’s gold-medal final against the winner of top-ranked Saskatchewan and fifth-ranked Manitoba.
The two losing teams from today will play for bronze tomorrow morning.
