No new fires were reported in the Northwest Region as of yesterday afternoon.
There was one new fire by day’s end Tuesday.
Fort Frances Fire #14 was a brush fire that spread from a vehicle fire on a back road about 30 km northeast of Atikokan.
The forest fire is now “out” at 0.1 hectares in size.
In related news, rotation continues in the support of firefighting efforts in western Canada.
Personnel returned from Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, and Saskatchewan yesterday as they reached the end of their deployment schedule.
They include overhead staff, FireRangers, and an Incident Management Team.
Additional resources are being sent from Ontario to B.C. this week, including FireRanger crews and overhead staff such as helicopter base managers, safety officers, cost unit leaders, and agency reps.
Ontario also is providing equipment, including fire hose, sprinkler kits, pumps, and chainsaws, to Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan, and Parks Canada.
