One team knows what lies ahead while the other still is awaiting for its road to be fully revealed.
The Muskie boys’ soccer team had its full schedule announced yesterday for the OFSAA ‘AA’ championships in North Bay this week.
The five-time defending NorWOSSA champs will be one of 16 unseeded teams in the 20-team field (OFSAA now only names the top four seeds for the boys’ tournament).
The Muskies will play in Pool ‘A,’ meaning they’ll lock horns with the top-ranked Ascension of Our Lord Secondary School Eagles from Mississauga (Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association).
Fort High will open play Thursday at 9:30 a.m. (all times CDT) against the Jean Vanier Catholic High School Jaguars (Richmond Hill).
That will be followed by a 12:30 p.m. match-up with the Simcoe Composite School Sabres (Simcoe).
The black-and-gold will try to shoot down the Eagles on Friday at 7 a.m., then will finish pool play against the Honourable W.C. Kennedy Collegiate Institute Clippers at 11:30 a.m.
The Muskie girls, meanwhile, also know they enter their OFSAA tournament in Wallaceburg unseeded while playing in Pool ‘D.’
But two of their four pool opponents were not known as of press time.
The reigning back-to-back NorWOSSA title-holders do know they’ll have to face the eighth-seeded host team, the Wallaceburg Titans, in their opener Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
Fort High will play its second game of the day against an unknown ROPSSAA opponent at 12:30 p.m.
On Friday, the Muskies will square off at 10 a.m. with the unidentified fourth-ranked team from the Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics (NOSSA).
Then they’ll close out pool play at 1 p.m. against the unseeded Bayside Secondary School Red Devils (Quinte West).
The top two teams from each pool in the girls’ and boys’ tournaments will advance to the quarter-finals later Friday.
The semi-finals and finals are set for Saturday.
