Council will get a few ideas as to what residents want included in the town’s next four-year strategic plan this evening.
Starting at 7 p.m., a public meeting will see two individuals speak to council—local resident Samantha Manty and Erma Armit of the Assisted Living Action Group (A.L.A.G.)
Council also will receive written submissions from Guy Donaldson, Eric and Caren Fagerdahl, Charleen Mallory, and Elaine Fischer of the Northwestern Health Unit.
Council will take any input it receives this evening and consider it, as well as a slew of other recommendations made by various town committees, during an all-day strategic planning session this Thursday (June 11) at Sunny Cove Camp.
The committee of the whole will meet first at 5:30 p.m., with the regular council meeting to follow.
The agenda also will include:
•two applications for tax adjustment at 118 Third St. W. (2013-14) and 501 Sixth St. W. (2014);
•an update on capital projects (road reconstruction);
•verbal reports on board and committee activities from Mayor Roy Avis and Couns. John Albanese, Wendy Brunetta, and June Caul;
•a public reminder about “pocket dialing” 9-1-1;
•a request from the Heart & Stroke Foundation to declare “National Health & Fitness Day” in the Town of Fort Frances;
•a request from the Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus Association of Ontario to declare “Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus Awareness Month” in the Town of Fort Frances;
•a request to plant trees on a town easement;
•a financial request from Jennifer Greenhalgh, chairperson of the Boundary Waters Dragon Boat Festival committee;
•a bylaw to authorize a licence agreement with Rainy River District School Board (joint agreement) for geospatial data; and
•a bylaw to authorize the levying and collection of a special charge of taxes upon the Business Improvement Area, as provided in the Municipal Act.
