RRCC makes final 4

“The Fantastic Four” will be part of the final four.
A quartet of former Muskies helped the Rainy River Community College Voyageurs’ women’s hockey team clinch a semi-final berth at the ACHA Division II national championship in York, Pa.
Muskie alumni Shelby Tymkin and Shilo Beck both scored, to go along with a pair of short-handed goals by Micah Cabral of Red Lake, as the second-ranked Voyageurs beat the fourth-seeded University at Buffalo Bulls 4-1 in Pool ‘A’ action yesterday.
The win means RRCC (2-0) can finish no lower than second in its pool.
As such, they’re assured a berth in the cross-over semi-finals tomorrow regardless of the outcome of their final pool game this afternoon versus the top-ranked California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans (1-0-1).
After a scoreless first period, Tymkin tallied five minutes into the second before Cabral notched one with four minutes to play with RRCC killing a penalty.
Beck then made it 3-0 early in the third.
The Bulls got on the board near the midway mark of the period, but Cabral iced the victory with three minutes left with her second short-handed goal.
Shalynn Perry made 18 saves to earn the victory.
The semi-finals are set for tomorrow at noon and 2:45 (CST).
Sunday’s final will take place at 9 a.m.
