Man faces charges

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Feb. 25, Rainy River District OPP officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving two people at a Marks Street address in Atikokan.
Local detachment members, assisted by members of the North West Region Emergency Response Team, the Fort Frances Crime Unit, and crisis negotiators, attended to assist with the investigation.
On Feb. 26, a 30-year-old Atikokan male was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and overcoming resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate, or strangle another person.
He also was charged with failing to comply with a probation order.
The victim did not require hospitalization for injuries.
The accused, who remained in custody, was to appear in court here today for a bail hearing.
