Let’s get ready to rumble.
The showdown that’s been brewing all season to decide NorWOSSA girls’ hockey supremacy is now set after the Muskies and Dryden Eagles made short work of their semi-final opponents.
Kaily Greengrass scored twice, and Calie Clendenning made 18 saves to earn the shutout, as Fort High blanked the host St. Thomas Aquinas Saints 5-0 on Saturday to sweep their series 2-0.
Janelle Kaemingh, Annalise Hayes, and Amy Penner also scored for the Muskies, who had shut out the Saints 8-0 in Game 1 here last Tuesday.
St. Thomas Aquinas still is guaranteed more hockey this season, however, as it has an automatic berth in the OFSAA ‘AA’ championship set for Kenora from March 9-13 as host team.
Dryden, meanwhile, swept the Kenora Broncos in two-straight games, including a 16-1 rout in Game 2 on Saturday in Kenora.
The first-place Eagles (12-0) will host second-place Fort High (9-3) in Game 1 of the best-of-three NorWOSSA final tomorrow in Dryden.
Game 2 is slated for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
Game 3, if necessary, will be back in Dryden on Saturday.
The defending NorWOSSA champion Muskies lost all three regular-season match-ups against Dryden.
But Fort High did beat the Eagles 1-0 in the final of the K-Town Christmas Classic in Kenora back in December.
Meanwhile, the Muskie boys’ team also will go Eagle-hunting as they square off with Dryden in Game 1 of their best-of-three NorWOSSA series tonight 7:45 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Fort High, the defending league champs, finished atop the NorWOSSA standings with a 14-1 record, which included a pair of home wins over Dryden.
But the second-place Eagles (11-4) did hand the Muskies their lone loss with a 6-4 triumph in Dryden on Jan. 12.
Game 2 of the series goes Thursday in Dryden.
Game 3, if necessary, will back here Friday at 7:15 p.m. at the IFK Arena.
The winner advances to the OFSAA ‘AA’ championship March 9-13 in Pembroke/Petawawa.
