Residents will have their say about allowing dogs at Seven Oaks during tonight’s council meeting.
A public meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
As reported two weeks ago, the town is looking at a prohibition of dogs in the area known as “Seven Oaks,” and consequently is seeking input on possible designated areas for permitted dog activity at Point Park.
The town has received public input in writing from local residents Sherree Denby, Betty McLeod, and Dave Erwin.
Another local resident, Stan Hoard, has confirmed with town clerk Lisa Slomke that he will speak to the matter tonight.
Slomke said even if individuals haven’t contacted the town ahead of time, the mayor will open the floor for those to speak at tonight’s public meeting.
Tonight’s meeting also will include delegations by Elm Avenue resident Bob Dobransky, regarding complaints about noise and burning at Tribal Area Health Services Inc., and the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce regarding its tourism initiatives and funding request.
Other business on the agenda includes:
•a recommendation re: a request for a town flag from a museum in Manitoba;
•a recommendation re: a change in a budget meeting date;
•a recommendation re: Minutes of Settlement for 1453 Colonization Rd. W. (2014);
•a recommendation re: a per capita request from Safe Communities Rainy River District;
•a report re: residential property at 501 Sixth St. W.;
•a report re: the renewal of a lease agreement with Vianet for space on the water tower for an antenna installation;
•a report re: modified user fees at the Memorial Sports Centre;
•a recommendation re: the placement of a community mailbox on Third Street West in the road allowance of Cornwall Avenue South;
•a report re: changing the date of the Feb. 23 council meeting (it currently conflicts with the annual ROMA/OGRA conference in Toronto);
•a written request for sponsorship from Miss Rainy River District Alyssa Chiasson;
•a request for GIS data from Joe Reynolds, chair of Rainy River District Stewardship;
•a bylaw to authorize the execution of an agreement between the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the town for the provision of Police Services under Section 10 of the Police Services Act;
•a bylaw to approve a consultant agreement with Associated Engineering (Ont.) Ltd. for engineering design and project management; and
•a bylaw to approve a grant agreement for financial assistance, under the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program, with the minister of municipal affairs and housing (this agreement enables the town to submit a claim to the ministry for expenses incurred due to last year’s flooding).
