the OPP
Shortly after 4:20 a.m. on Nov. 1, the Rainy River District OPP responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting an impaired driver.
Officers attended the scene and an investigation revealed the claim made was false.
As a result, a 27-year-old Atikokan man recently was charged with common nuisance.
He was to appear in court in Atikokan this morning.
The use of 9-1-1 is a serious matter. When it is called, officers immediately are taken away from their current investigations and duties to respond.
This often can mean officers respond from various locations with the use of emergency lights in an effort for a timely response.
The misuse of 9-1-1 creates an unsafe situation for both members of the public and officers alike.
The public is urged to call 9-1-1 for emergency response, whether it be police, fire, or ambulance, but not to misuse the service.
